In early January 2023 I began the huge endeavor of threading seven looms with seven yards of warp. This project was going to involve a school-wide effort to have every student weave on a loom. The end product is still to be determined. Each loom is threaded with a color; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and black and woven will the same color weft. Students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade really enjoy the hands on experience of making cloth. They like the activity of making something with their hands and a machine. They like switching the treadles, throwing the shuttle, and beating the beater. Students worked in pairs. We kept edges loose, to keep the width of the weaving the widest. (Good for constructing the larger collaborative piece) Updates later as we have about five more yards to go!!
